House Resolution # 461 calls for:
1.
The immediate and unconditional release from prison in the Republic of Turkey of the parliamentarians Leyla Zana, Hatip Dicle, Orhan Dogan, and Selim Sadak is a vital step in upholding due process in Turkey and facilitating Turkey's integration into the European Union; and2.
The prompt recognition by the Government of the Republic of Turkey of full cultural and language rights for the Kurdish people within its borders, including the right of education and broadcasting in Kurdish is a vital step in promoting tolerance and cultural diversity in a manner consistent with Turkey's commitment as a participant state of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. The government of Turkey is the United States’ #1 ally in the region after Israel. Turkey depends greatly on this relationship in form of military aids and support and in form of political backing to actions it takes in the region, especially those that are not so welcomed by the neighboring countries. This puts us in a position to be respected or at least listened to. Unlike the US all of Europe is in support of Kurdish human rights, its time for us to join them if not all together carry the cause forward. This resolution will put us side by side with them to call on Turkey to recognize one of the simplest rights a human-being should have, the right to possess a cultural identity.
In a nutshell, This non-binding resolution is in support of the civil and human rights of the Kurds who live in Kurdistan of Turkey. The Kurds make up to 20 million of the 65 million inhabitants of Turkey and they have lived there thousands of years prior to the formation of the present Turkish State. The Kurds of Turkey represent one-half of the total Kurdish population of Greater Kurdistan, which is divided between Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Russia. Those in Turkey are not allowed to speak their language in public, teach it to their children, write or broadcast too. They are even forbidden to give their children Kurdish names. Believe it, even the Kurds under Saddam Husein are allowed to do so. Leyla Zana, a duly elected parliamentarian, is serving a 15-year sentence for addressing the parliament in her Kurdish tongue.
IF OUR COUNTRY NEEDS TURKEY LETS NOT LET IT BE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE PEOPLE OF TURKEY: THE KURDS
